Well done you have completed the Preparation Stage! With your class you’ve identified your site, done your survey, prepared a site plan and developed your own design briefs. You are now ready to start the Architectural Design Process which is broken into two stages: Concept Design and Design Development.
Ideas
- The aim of this stage is to really push your class’s ideas creatively – ideally both in 2D and 3D.
- To develop Concept Designs encourage your class to sketch out their initial ideas using some of the techniques outlined in our Drawing Zone
- Design Development is best done through 3D modeling techniques. There are plenty of useful tips in our Modelling Zone
- Take a look at pictures of the stadiums currently being developed for London 2012 for inspiration or webcams of the construction in action.
- Search CABE’s case studies for hundreds of the best buildings and places in the country. This could be especially useful if you are designing a venue for a cultural event.
- Search the RIBA picture library.
By the end of this step your class will have completed the Architectural Design Stage - developing initial concept designs through 2D and developing their designs through 3D modeling.
